Just watched it, presenter seemed to have the hots for Steve Latham.

I thought that was an excellent advertisement for steam. The use of the word locomotive was spot on too. Great advert for our movement - Blue Peter doing what she has always done well :)

I agree with you Simon, and yes I was rather impressed that the correct term was used.

All credit to BP's script writers, researchers and presenters I say :) An excellent piece, full marks to the BBC.

Agree with every comment above, great advert, on a mainstream program for steam, hopefully they continue to follow the restoration, and make a big deal of her return.

I think it's a safe bet that there will be a special Blue Peter, when 60532 returns. I have memories of the last one in 1992!

Thanks to all for the "Heads Up". They never used to let Valerie Singleton loose with heavy hand tools... Strike one for equality!

Anyone whining about their recalcitrant 4mm scale brass kit really should grab a cuppa and watch the clip!

Nice to enjoy a peek inside Crewe as well. What an operation it is!

The 47 seem to have its headcode panel restored too... Fair play to LSL they seem to be going for the adage of 'if a jobs worth doing , it's worth doing right'

I have to say, that's one thing that grates on me with 'classic' diesels - if they have an inappropriate headcode panel for the period they represent, e.g. the green 25 that can be seen doing sterling service on the NYMR at the moment. I didn't mind the 'domino' type panels so much when on blue locos, but I really disliked them when plated over and painted yellow :Vomit: - vide various Deltics.

Watched this with my 4 year old and she enjoyed it just as much as I did - just shows how well it can be done when producers put the time and effort in.

After the Welsh language debate fiasco on Newsnight this week where neither side spoke Welsh and the presenter managing to offend most of the country within 30 seconds, seems Blue Peter could show some allegedly more experienced journalists how it should be done!

I must admit I also liked what appeared to be a crimson and cream Mk.IId carriage!

I'm just wondering if there are any significant components that would be interchangeable between Blue Peter and Tornado.

With the design tweaks on 60163, the answer may be different to what it would have been had an original A1 survived.

Everything behind the tender? (I was going to resist temptation, but since you started it .... !!)

Well, the middle cylinder for starters, the A1SLT pattern for which has been loaned to facilitate the casting of a new one for Blue Peter. I suspect most of the casting patterns are common between the two as well.

Think Tornados frames are subtly different to Blue Peters, so potentially you could use, with a bit of machining, Blue Peters cylinders on Tornado, perhaps not the other way round, perhaps the mounting position and angle is different too...
