Better value is the rover ticket for £20.

It has a 20 day contract so will be in service towards late August/September to use up its days. It is currently spare in case one of the service engines fails so may be out before hand.

I've got a day off from work tomorrow and was thinking about heading down to the DSR. Can someone please advise which locos are out on the orange timetable and which way they currently face?

    Thanks in advance,
    James

4277 & 75014 are holding the fort at the moment, both facing S/box to Paignton.

Just out of interest, as a lover of the Dartmouth Steam Railway, is the intention to stick with the heavy tanks? They are a pleasure to see at work. So in the short term 75014 and 7827, soon to be followed by 4555 and an S160?

Guessing by the next time you need an engine it'll be 5239 or 4277?

As a Tyseley volunteer though, I must say I'm looking forward to seeing the red engine at work when we come down :D

Well done to all at Dartmouth for the railway you've achieved - our "holiday railway" which we love to visit

Thank you for your kind comments.

Re the 2-8-0's, I can assure you they will be sorely missed. They are by far the most ideal Locomotives for us, economical to run & can take any train we can throw at them. If another one came available, we'd almost certainly have it.

5239's Overhaul will be started in earnest soon, more details of this will be released shortly but she will be running again by 2020.

4277's Overhaul will be started pretty much as soon as she returns from her Winter Jaunt up North. But there is expected to be some considerable work to do on her, so when she is planned to return is anyone's guess at the moment!

We will have 75014, 4555, 7827 & the S160 for next year. However 7827 will not see use until around June as she has earnt a bottom end overhaul after Xmas, years of slogging up Goodrington Bank with heavy trains have taken their toll. 4555 should be running by April, so we will have a visitor early in the year to cover 7827 & the running in of 4555. The S160 is expected around July-August time, so another Summer visitor will be with us, just to cover the possibility of the S160 being late. Details of the 2 visitors will be released, once all the necessary paperwork has been formalised.

Thank you Rory, really interesting read and sounds like the future of steam on the DSR is going to be a colourful one. I must say I'm always impressed with the amount of mileage your locos must do day in day out during the season, obviously a testament to how looked after they are

Well done and thanks for your reply

Whilst the weather hasn't been the kindest this week sat on the deck at our holiday cottage listening to 75014 and 4277 climbing from Goodrington has been a joy and one that will be missed

Had a great day on the railway on Friday. The crew on 75014 were obviously enjoying themselves especially on the last departure from Kingswear, fabulous sound! 4277 also sounded good, talking to the driver about how much she has in reserve, 7 on and she was sailing up the bank with little effort. Great railway, very friendly staff, loads to do, fascinating route and some lovely sounds! Many thanks.
