Letter accompanying the tickets says Guardsman. It's going to be the usual 12 coach train, 10 passenger carrying coaches including the buffet plus the kitchen car and POB.

Interesting. I've heard from three separate sources it will be Leander.

Bit worrying having the year we are. Will they let Leander over Shap with 12 'unassisted'?

With it being a London originating run, I'd be very surprised to see a diesel added. My guess would be if it is load 12, they'd be using 46115, and the tickets are more likely to be correct.

Believe you're right. One of my very reliable contacts said it is Leander and on it's own. No diesel, though he wasn't sure of the load on the day. Really looking forward to the train. Never done Leander over Shap. Will be interesting to see how it compares with Galatea given a clear path.

Could be squeaky bum time if you get looped at Tebay with 12 on ! If you compare recent trips with 45690 & 45699, you'll notice Leander has had the tougher routes.

Yeah that would be something. Years not going like that though. We booked the 23rd July Duchy and that's gone now!! At least it's a cancellation so we won't lose our money. Following the theme, VT have added a Welsh Marches Express on 14th October and we're booked on the CME. We love the Marches and it's done so rarely we'll have to do it.

Well looks like she's made it past Grayrigg and Tebay. Will probably get looped at Penrith; if not it could be an extremely swift descent.

Sounds as though that was a very competent climb. Kudos to the crew, and those responsible for Leander's welfare.

Same couldn't be said for the return so far. Took almost 62 mins Carlisle-Appleby. Real struggle up the 1 in 100 to Ais Gill. 37mins 15 secs to summit passed at just over 17. Left Hellifield 20 down.
