Sorry can you expand on this, have they purchased the bungalow @ Paracombe which some troll a few pages back had stated had been purchased by an opponent? If so it is indeed a useful step forward.

Not the halt itself, but the land immediately to the South, which includes the southern end of the halt and part of the track. The Trust has sold Fairview (minus the track bed of course) and bought another cottage (Ivy Cottage), whose garden included this part of the track bed. They intend to sell on Ivy Cottage (minus the track bed). The trust now owns land on each side of the halt (The Bungalow). I think that this may well be the land that someone was referring to earlier in this thread - if so they got the wrong end of the thread!

Shame that Fairview was sold, would have made a cracking holiday let, although I complete understand the rationale behind it.

Excited about the new acquisitions, just need to bag the bungalow now!

Frankly, I could imagine some steam fans would be quite happy to live in the bungalow and add a couple of extra doors and have the trains go right through their living room! :D

This latest purchase mentioned above hasn't made it onto the L&B website for us mere interested observers yet. Which prompted me to go digging for the Exmoor Associates website, which includes a handy map of the route colour-coded with who owns what. But the question I have is, aside from this latest purchase, how up to date is that map?

It looks like there are two significant stretches of trackbed not in L&B or EA ownership on the currently planned extension, but what this doesn't tell us of course is just how many little parcels of land make up those two stretches. Can anyone explain it for those of us watching from afar who don't really know the area?

Incidentally anyone who thinks they would like to set up their own heritage railway would do well to look at the L&B's suite of planning documents - the amount of work which has clearly gone into this is obvious, and impressive, but should also serve as a warning to any dreamers!

I believe the map was updated after the last land purchase, so the only part that might be missing would be this most recent stretch.

Not sure about the parcels of land, but I imagine the L&B would keep a lot of that information under wraps to avoid any upsets in their negotiations.

Which would be fair enough. I'm interested to know whether they need to negotiate with 2 or 3 or potentially dozens of landowners still for this section, but I'm quite OK with not knowing if that's how it must be!

Is this bungalow and the owner amiable to the cause? Finger crossed it is so!

    *edit*
I realise the bungalow doesn't really have an opinion on the matter but it has been a long week :p

    Three for Free!
It's clear from various posts on this thread that not everyone is an L&B Trust member and so cannot get access to the members only web areas.
Being a member has excellent benefits including a very good magazine.
SO - I'm prepared to pay for memberships for the first THREE Nat Pres members who contact me via the personal message system. This is to a maximum of one full individual membership for one year. (See: http://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/page/join-lb-trust-online-today for rates). This is for non-members ONLY, not for renewals!!
As I'm sure you won't want to send me your private address and phone details etc, I will send the amount direct to you by Paypal once the Treasurer confirms you have paid.

    Happy L&B-ing :)

The ENP might decide the planning applications in May now, as they are still struggling to get their heads around it as it is the biggest thing they have ever handled, and the planning officers who were dealing with it at the start have left, so the new ones had to start from scratch again.

The recent working weekend was concentrated north of Bratton Flemming station, what is the status of this section as it is not shown as either in the ownership of EA or the Trust on the website map.

Is there not a limit on how long applications should be with a council - 16 weeks rings a bell, but its been a while since I have been involved in such matters.

If I remember rightly this section is owned by someone sympathetic to the L&BR (it even had some rails laid down part of the way). If you look at the report on the L&BR website you see a photo of the person towards the end of one of the day's pictures.

It really is a disgrace they have taken so long compared to North Devon. Unfit for purpose springs to mind....
