    I know it's a Shack, not a Lanc ...

(Good piloting as well to get such a big aeroplane down on such a small landing strip!)

Actually it was the prototype VTOL Shackleton. You can see the lift engine underneath the rear fuselage. :)

    That is hideous
It looks like someone else agrees with me as they have tried to rub off the paint on the rear.

In the interests of achieving maximum value for money for the taxpayer, rather than simply buy new Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) and let a naturally inefficient part of the government machine operate them, the MOD have put the contract out to tender. Meanwhile, the board of a well know soft-drink manufacturer have decided that diversifying into other market sectors is wise at the present time, and such a venture could double as a means of advertising their main brand. MPD officials are quoted as saying 'This not only provides tremendous value for the taxpayer, it also solves the 'soft drink' crisis in Whitehall and I understand that the successful bidders produce a product that is excellent at removing the oxidation that metals in a maritime environment suffer from' (allegedly).

Any nod to history would see 44932 emerge in the BR green the purists probably want 35018 in.
The current owner of both is not a preservationist and reputedly an enthusiast despiser. Historical accuracy seems to be an unlikely priority. If non authentic livery varieties attract paying customers more than the traditional variations that is all the vindication necessary.

Yep. Froth about livery on here is grist to the mill. Same as the issue surrounding the FB photos of 35018 flagged up on this site. The moment they got publicised, they were taken down.

Didn't 44932 carry BR Green anyway? Although I think it would have been in 1948/49? As regards @26D_M comment about him being an enthusiast hater I can't agree with that at all, without David Smith where would loco's like 46115 and 45699 be? And where would the loco this threads about be? I don't know Mr Smith, and I'm not saying I agree with some of the things him and WCRC have done, but sometimes I don't blame him for thinking 'stuff you, it's my ruddy engine, I've paid for it and I can do what I ruddy well like' when I read some of the stuff on here.

There was at least one Black 5 turned out in Apple Green whilst decisions on livery were being made, was there not?

See, there was paint froth back then too :Joyful:
