Always want to see a Merchant in mixed-traffic black; after all, they were allegedly mixed-traffic engines! Just need to win the lottery now so I can have the right to decide...

I suggest Rail Blue as per the the Vale of Rheidol tanks in the '70s, with a double arrow on the tender. The rebuilds were originally projected to stay in service till beyond 1970, after all, and 35018 is the original rebuild.

Oh, and wasp stripes on the buffer beams, just to ensure maximum apoplexy...

    Have they been asked?
It's quite simple: every photo is copyright, and without express permission you are infringing copyright it you copy it - but not if you post a link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...e-digital-images-photographs-and-the-internet
However, this discussion should probably be on another thread.

No, as usual people are getting uptight on someone else's behalf! :)

As to livery, surely black with two white stripes would be appropriate?

I remember a few years ago there was a rumour just prior to 35018 going to Carnforth that Ian Riley was going to buy 35018 as well as restore 35009 with the former being painted in BR Lined Back and the later in the BR Express Blue like 35005 had (I thought 35005 looked lovely in Blue).

I'd quite like to see it in Brunswick Green with the early crest. Would be authentic and something different (would be even better if it came out as it did when rebuilt).

I'm expecting BR green but would really like BR Blue.

There was a glimpsed view of something Bulleid and rebuilt shaped outside at Carnforth when I came past this this afternoon, assume it was 35018 (is Bodmin there) along with the silver painted Bulleid boiler which has been on a truck for quite some time also (from 34073 possibly??) Assuming it was 35018 it didn't look hugely different to how it did in the SR photo's? It had disappeared again when I came past 2 hours later else I would have tried a photo from the slow moving train.

Edit - I have just taken another look at the 35018 photo's shared on Facebook and it was definitely her as the one thing which caught my eye was the red cladding around the throat plate area

i would be very surprised if 35018 was ready by then, even if Carnforths engineers worked on it every day there is still a lot of work to be done the lubrication pipework for example isnt a 5 minute job, 12 weeks i dont think is going to be enough time, i would say an Feb 2017 tour would be more like it.

I did read after that it's being stopped until next year. Is there some more work to be done?

and as the WC supremo himself was quoted in the recent magazine article, "we never book an engine until it's proven" so it seems a tall order to achieve that objective by the end of next month.

I have it on good authority that 35018 has been seen in steam and moving up and down the yard at Carnforth today. The loco is still in undercoat.
Just passing on some info so don't shoot the messenger.
