Last time I dropped in for tea with the owner of Collection X he was riding round the paddock on Shergar, having lunched with Lord Lucan!

We are probably suffering from thread drift; to tack us deliciously back on course I must say I'm looking forward to seeing Lyn in steam. The recreation of this locomotive is a magnificent achievement.

Actually it is. On the 'Fairatt' the boiler/cab/bunker/water tanks are all carried on one set of frames, with two power bogies beneath.

Apologies it is a kitson meyer, at least in that picture. I was basing my statement on the rather nice 16mm scale model that has the same name, and a similar appearance but definitely looks like a garratt at the back. I had assumed this was a model of the proposed full size one.

There were some handsome and useful Kitson Meyers (e.g. on the Antofagasta Bolivia). This, however, does not appear to be one. The L&B had some of the most handsome narrow gauge motive power ever - why introduce a brutish experiment.

Swerving back onto Lyn - will be wonderful to see it completed. A magnificent accomplishment and a fine, powerful and useful loco.

    Yeo next...?

"Yeo next?" - Yes, that's the plan, then the rest of the fleet... :)

Interesting question would arise if, when the railway is longer, Mr Evans decides to relocate Lyd permanently to the L&B. Would the L&B still want to build a replica Lew? Or would Lyd be okay for that role... ?

The other question is which of the fleet will be in L&B livery and which in Southern?
Presumably at least one needs to be in a livery that fits with the L&B coaches, and that might mean the old style cab etc...?

Since the L&B has carriage in the original livery, plus Lyd already shows the Maning Wardles in their later guises, it would seem pretty logical to me that Yeo should be in the original form. Makes it distinctive, plus they already have carriages to match.

I know there has been some suggestion that the original 5 locos might not be enough for the new L&B, so an additional Manning Wardle may not go amiss.

Sadly it is not down to Mr Evans but the Ffestiniog Railway Trust who own her, this is due to those who put the money into the project ( such as my self) we signed up to the fact the FR Trust would own her on completion, but if she was to move full time to Devon, then I would be one very happy bunny indeed.

I don't see that as a likely scenario. LYD is a Welsh loco and, as I see it, should remain there, along with Carriage No. 15 (ex L&B No. 14)

The longer term plan is, I believe, for the L&B to recreate all the original locomotives and passenger stock.

    Hi Ellenbee,

This was something discussed a long time ago - IIRC at the early design stage. Can you explain your thoughts on this, and perhaps show some photographic evidence to back up your comment?

    Hi Ellenbee,

As I recall, this was discussed at length a considerable time ago - during the early design stages - although I don't recall the outcome.

Perhaps you could expand your thoughts on this, perhaps with some evidence (photos?) explaining the discrepancy, and why it might be an issue, bearing in mind that this LYN is designed and built in and for the 21st Century.

From now to the end of September 2016, the first £15,000 received in donations to the 762 Club "Final Assembly Appeal" will receive 1-to-1 matched funding - so you can make your donation £££s go twice as far!

Just go to the 762 Club website (see link in my signature below) or the attached file to download a PDF version of the appeal leaflet.

How's the funding being matched, is it by a private donor?
